There is a good deal to do here, and the greatest determinant of what gets done as a priority is the Voice of the Customer. Under Construction: What to Expect

Engagement is a hot concept. But what exactly is it? Engagement is not a “thing” you do or a program to implement. Engagement is not an action but an outcome, just as flawless execution is an outcome based on many actions.

 

The Business Case provides ammunition for practitioners in response to the most basic go / no-go questions from decision-makers: why should we bother with this engagement stuff? Why is it so important, what is the potential? Our first task is to build a working understanding of engagement.

 

High engagement is the difference-maker between simply complying to marching orders and being committed to the company’s success. One might win a battle or two. The other wins the war.

Determinants of engagement are highly individual, therefore engagement is internally-driven, individually defined. No sweeping organizational programs can effectively impact engagement levels. When it gets right down to it, each individual “owns” their own engagement. Just as others cannot motivate me, they cannot engage me.

 

Leaders need to know how to connect with their people and at what level. If you don’t know what it is for you personally, how can you do the right things to encourage and empower others to engage?
